Arriviere was never a big town. It is not known when it was founded, or who founded it. The town's inhabitants have been living in the area for as long as memory living and dead. There's a station near, but there's no service that will bring you to it. No history of the town is written down, but it's existence is recorded as far back as the Roman empire.
Due to it's geographical surroundings, the sun never shines for long. The mountains to the East are cause of a late sunrise, and those in the West of an early and short twilight. The forests are filled with brambles, and things that should not be spoken of. Most of the inhabitants are careful about staying within the ancient walls after nightfall.

## [[Forest Gods]]
The Frankish people that have lived in this area for centuries have always worshipped a pantheon of local forest gods. These gods, according to legend, are responsible for allowing the people of the valley to thrive despite the short days. Although very few people would admit to believing these stories, the rituals still get practiced. This is in large part due to a small coven of witches, who work to keep the old gods happy. [[The Coven of Arriviere]] has done this since the arrival of Christianity, but now they have encountered a more active threat.
Since the [[du Toit Trade Company]] has started operating in the area, they have hunted the coven. Three of the four have since been killed, only one remains. The last witch of the coven contacts the party and asks them to help her stop the Old Gods from taking out their anger on the town.

The [[Private Investigator]] asked the party to help with a personal target of his.

Before the investigation into the [[du Toit Trade Company]] brought him to the Netherlands, he used to work with a partner in crime/romance.
While he was out scouting, a [[du Toit Assassin]] murdered his partner, as well as the client. This is the reason that the PI is now tracking this case without help or a client.

He would like to get revenge on both the assassin and the assassin's employers. He has tracked down the assassin to [[The City]]'s [[Grand Hotel]]. And has asked the players to sneak in and find out more about the assassin's goals.

One of [[the statues]] ended up in the hands of a [[Spymaster]], who went haywire, killed a bunch of his spies, and disappeared.

# Hook

After the party tracks down one of the statues, the [PI](Private%20Investigator.md) will reach out to them specifically to ask for help with this case. The [[Private Investigator]] has tracked down three locations he believes are related to the case.

## Introduction
The latest in the series of murders. A messenger was killed in a second home of a wealthy business man. At the time of the murder, the owner of the apartment was out of town, so he claims it must have been one of the servants.
## Searching the premises
Although the body was removed, the messenger's bag remains in building. Inside of it are various letter addressed to, or sent by a Mr. Valens.
There is a [letter](Valens'%20Messenger's%20Bag.md) lying next to the bag, its envelope is not marked with any name nor address.
## Capture
Although [[Room 418]] is the [[Spymaster]]'s, the [statue](The%20Statues) is not there. The [[Spymaster]] has completely thrashed the room, leaving broken furniture and torn bedding.
The man himself is a pitiable mess, rambling about how *"That bitch stole it, SHE TOOK IT FROM ME!"*. He will attack the players with on sight.

Or is it the Netherlands cause our shit takes place there? I forgot, but whichever is more handy for the current line of play he lives in and studies in Oh right He studies at the same place Johann works at at as a janitor

> As you enter, you immediately notice the chaos. The furniture is thrashed, and there's shreds of a newspaper all over. You hear a crying voice coming from the bathroom.
In this room, the players will find the [[Spymaster]] who attacks them on sight. Although the newspaper was torn to shreds, the [[Spymaster]] has one page that he is clutching onto like his life depends on it. On it, an ad for an antique shop has been circled.
When the party get's here, it is quite chaotic, with papers, letters and clothing all over the place.
A mask in the style previously seen worn by the [[du Toit Private Army]] is lying on the bed. On top of one of the uniform coats.

Some of the more organized papers include:
### A letter
Informing the assassin of the party's actions at the [[Freight Station]].
>Dweller. When the last train from harbour arrived they found the guards at the station dead, and various doors open. We do not know for certain yet, but we must proceed under the assumption that someone has found out. If they work for the wrong people, our operation could be in trouble. Find what you can, and report as soon as possible.

>Command.

### A photograph

Of the [[Private Investigator]] walking near the bar the party meets up with him at. It looks recently developed.

With some searching, the party can find a hidden stash of weapons. As well as a smooth, transparent stone. That when looked through seems to show lights that aren't there. The stone is set in a ring of silver.

While the party is searching through the room, the [[Du Toit Assassin]] will return to his room, carrying a locked case filled with artefacts.

## The [[Grand Hotel]]
The party has hotel staff uniforms, they'll need to change into them, and sneak into the hotel.
Before arriving, the PI gives the party a photo of the person he thinks is the assassin.
The hotel is hosting a private event for the city's upper class. The [[du Toit Trade Company]] is also using the event to find new customers.
The party might spot some cultist masks this on approach or after entering if they're `alert` enough `[DV 12]`.
## Private Event
At the entrance to the private event, the guests need to show one of the [[du Toit Trade Company]] emblems that all their allies carry. Oriann may notice this.
At the event there are also some people that know Oriann from his attempts to find a cure to his disease. The event is guarded by [[du Toit Private Army]] grunts wearing green coats and masks. They are not wearing the helmets, instead their hair is visible.
Also at the gathering is Sem Harestein, the [[Appraiser]]. He will recognize Oriann on sight. And panic about it a bit. If Oriann is `sneaky` enough, he may be able to avoid being seen by Sem though. `[DV 10]`.
Sem will spend most of the gathering standing next to the [[du Toit Assassin]] that the party has come to find. The assassin is there with a case of lower potency artefacts from the cargo that was taken to the front yesterday.
## Upstairs
Upstairs things are a lot calmer, there's only the occasional group of business-looking people walking to rooms to finalize deals or negotiate further.
By the [fourth floor](Room%20418) there's basically no one walking around.
## Session End
- Sem recognized Oriann while he was sneaking through the private event
- Oriann managed to escape and was not spotted
- Oriann managed to get a glance of the rifle the assassin was selling
- The party managed to find the photo and the letter in the hotel room
- The party managed to get away without hassle, but was tracked by the assassin.
- Oriann recognized the assassin as they were driving away.
- The assassin attacked Johan at his home
- Johan's family managed to overpower the assassin
- Johan and the assassin were both arrested and released
- Johan kept the assassin's rifle
- The PI gave the party the backpacks for stowing away on the train.
- The session ended with Oriann leaving to tell Sem about the situation with the assassin.

## Return to the [[Freight Station]]
The party will have to find some way onto the next [[du Toit Trade Company]] train to France.
The station has been completely cleaned up since last time, and as far as the party can tell there is no one guarding it.
Although slowing down, the train does not come to a complete stop. Instead it slows down as it passes by the city.
## The Ride
The train is mostly abandoned, a few guards stand near the front, but the rest of the several hundred metres of rolling steel are entirely unwatched.
After exiting the city, the train once more accelerates. From that point onwards, the track leads through forest and farmland for several days, no breaks, no stops. Just the noise of the wheels hitting the track, and the wood, steel and rope holding the train and it's cargo together.
### Cargo
The train is carrying a shipment of food, water and digging supplies. nothing magical or otherwise out of the ordinary near the back. There is one passenger carriage for a group of guards and the train's engineers. Although the guards and engineers don't speak, the engineers don't seem to be uncomfortable with the arrangement. The passenger carriage is always entirely dark and silent.
## The destination
The train's destination is a station in the middle of nowhere in northern France. About a kilometer's walk from the station there is a small town of about a hundred inhabitants.
From the station, the train's engineers start resupplying for another journey.
While the guards, joined by a delegation of more masked guards waiting at the station, unload the cargo onto four trucks.
After unloading the cargo, the trucks leave in the direction of the town.

The du Toit Trade Company is an organization specialized in [[Trade in Magical Materials]]. Most of their business in conducted behind closed doors with trusted partners. In some exceptional cases they host an event with the richer members of a given country, with the goal of finding new clients.
The company employs its own [[du Toit Private Army]] as well as allowing third parties to hire them when it fits the company's goals. The military branch scaled up massively at the start of the Great War.

Before the war, the military mainly served as bodyguards for the company's executives. And securing the dig sites where the company's wares come from.
After the death of Franz Ferdinand, the company started scaling up it's military and selling it to the highest bidder.
